For rural advocacy purposes, it is helpful to have information focused specifically on rural minority issues including detailed descriptions of the context in which these populations live. Summary data on rural minority residents can serve as a source for generating hypotheses, be referenced while preparing grant applications, and used when considering the potential impact of policy change on vulnerable populations.

This project compiled information from the U.S. Census, the Area Health Resource File, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation County Rankings data set into a comprehensive summary of key social determinants of health among rural populations: demographic characteristics, economic characteristics, health facility availability, and selected health outcomes. Information presented for major race/ethnicity groups: non-Hispanic African American, Hispanic, non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Native, non-Hispanic Asian/Pacific Islander, and non-Hispanic white populations.
